With less than a week left until the very important midterm elections roll out- commercials, news outlets, and radio shows are pouring their time and energy into political ads and commentary. After a turbulent 2020 election that saw democrats and republicans go toe-to-toe regarding voter fraud, it’s tough to sift through the ‘why’ when it comes to choosing a candidate.

No article or political commentator can tell you who to vote for — including this article. Even if you watch every debate there is, it’s tough to look into what each candidate is saying because our democracy leans on what the other party is doing rather than solutions. But how can we choose which one is for us? The Why. Looking at the most important issues we face in America, not only which one matters most to you and your family, but why does it matter?

  • Economy
  • Abortion
  • Election integrity
  • Crime

When, where, and how are much easier to answer but they’re much more finite than why. Why is the economy important to you? Allowing yourself to look past the idea of what the candidate is spewing, but why does it affect you?

Crossing through each topic, it’s your civic duty as an American citizen to vote on your topics, not the topics that candidates are trying to push. Crossing political lines is imperative to determine the best for today’s democracy. If we continue to vote based on what's popular in our area for that reason alone, success in the big topics such as the economy, abortion, crime, etc., will be overlooked.

Why. Why does it matter to you? Not what can a candidate do you, but why them?

Push your political lines, push your narrative, and continue to push for your beliefs because that’s what this nation was founded on. The entrustment on citizens to choose our political servants to represent us.
